Nicaragua In the fall of 2014 HCVI signed a 5 year MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Fabretto Foundation. The organization overseas 12,000+ children in 50 schools located in Managua and outlying areas providing education, basic health care, and nutrition.

2 of the largest schools in the system are located in Somoto and Esteli, in the northern mountainous region of the country. HCVI has established clinics at each of these sites, where a program of telemedicine is being developed in coordination with local health care workers on site. Additionally HCVI will send volunteer medical personnel on a periodic basis.

Among the planned projects, in addition to the clinics, will be distribution of antiparasitic medication to treat intestinal parasites on a scheduled basis throughout the year. HCVI will assist the school systems with health education, focusing on such areas as dental hygiene. A dozen Chromebook computers have been donated to facilitate education, as well as support the developing telemedicine programs. Larger medical teams are planned to begin trips in the second half of 2016.

A major project that will commence in April of 2016, shortly after matriculation for the current school year, is the Focus on Vision program. It will involve the screening of ALL 12,000+ children in Fabretto's 50 schools. After screening, focused teams of ophthalmologist and optometrist will perform refraction and more detailed examination of children identified with decreased visual acuity. Glasses and other necessary treatment will be provided.
